Our Mission Field- Our families have answered the invitation to join the CCSB on mission as a NAMB Mission Service Corps church planting team with the responsibility of targeting a section of the greater Toronto area with a population of 412 thousand and no SBC work. As a matter of fact, there are very few "evangelical" churches here, 1 per every 12,000 people. And the need is growing! The Brampton suburb of Toronto is the second fastest growing city in Canada, has the youngest median age demographically (32.6 years). Brampton is the 14th largest city in Canada and 3rd largest within the Greater Toronto Area. Conservative estimates project massive growth over the next 15 years. The local economic council projects Brampton’s population will triple by 2020. That’s nearly 1 million in 16 years! Most will be a mixture of second and third generation Canadians, as well as immigrants from India, Pakistan, the United Kingdom and Jamaica. One can tour the area see very few “church” buildings of any kind. Most belong to the United Church of Canada. Then there are the cults. The national headquarters of the Watchtower of Canada and the Toronto-Ontario Mormon Temple both call Brampton home. As you can imagine, due to the general absence of any strong biblically-based churches, the need is truly great. In 1997, Outreach Canada, a study of evangelical work in Canada, found that only 6.7% of Canadians had been “evangelized.” This figure is staggering due to Canada’s close proximity to the States. Even more staggering is the fact that Outreach Canada reports as much as 8.8% of the population of China has heard the Gospel.
